足太阳脉，使人腰痛，牵引项、脊、凥、背，如同身负重物，刺其郄中，于太阳正经出血，春季不可见血。
When the foot greater yang vessel is affected, it gives a person pain in the lower back that draws up into the nape, the spine and the seat, as though one were carrying a weight. Needle the cleft centre and let blood from the greater yang main conduit. In spring, do not bring blood to view.
Shào yáng, lìng rén yāo tòng, rú yǐ zhēn cì qí pí zhōng, xún xún rán bù kě yǐ fǔ yǎng, bù kě yǐ gù, cì shào yáng chéng gǔ zhī duān chū xuè.
少阳，使人腰痛，如同用针刺入皮内，缓缓然不可以俯仰，不可以回顾，刺少阳成骨之端出血。
Lesser yang: it gives pain in the lower back as though a needle had been driven into the skin; one moves with difficulty and can neither bend forward nor look round. Needle the end of the ridge bone of lesser yang and let blood.

The ridge bone is the bone that stands up alone on the outer edge of the knee. In summer, do not bring blood to view.

阳明使人腰痛，不可以回顾，回顾则如有所见，易于悲伤，刺阳明于䯒骨之前三次，上下调和其气而出血，秋季不可见血。
Yang brightness gives pain in the lower back; one cannot look round, and looking round is like seeing something there, and the person is apt to grieve. Needle yang brightness three times in front of the shin bone, harmonising above and below, and let blood. In autumn, do not bring blood to view.
Zú shào yīn, lìng rén yāo tòng, tòng yǐn jǐ nèi lián, cì shào yīn yú nèi huái shàng èr wěi, chūn wú xiàn xuè, chū xuè tài duō, bù kě fù yě.
足少阴，使人腰痛，痛牵引脊内廉，刺少阴于内踝之上二次，春季不可见血；出血太多，就不可恢复了。
Foot lesser yin: it gives pain in the lower back that draws along the inner edge of the spine. Needle lesser yin twice above the inner ankle. In spring, do not bring blood to view; if too much blood is let, the patient cannot be restored.

厥阴之脉，使人腰痛，腰中如同张开的弓弩之弦，刺厥阴之脉，其处在小腿肚、足跟与鱼腹之外，循按之累累然成串，乃刺之；其病使人多言而忽然静默，神志不慧，刺三次。
The ceasing yin vessel gives pain in the lower back, and the back feels like a drawn crossbow string. Needle the ceasing yin vessel where it lies outside the calf, the heel and the fish of the foot; press along it until you feel the lumps strung one after another, and needle there. The illness makes a person talk readily and then fall silent and dull. Needle it three times.

The jie vessel gives pain in the lower back that draws into the shoulder; the eyes go dim and blank, and the patient passes urine unawares. Needle the jie vessel: let blood from the transverse vessel at the division of sinew and flesh at the knee, on the outer edge of the cleft, and stop when the blood changes colour.

解脉又使人腰痛如同被带子牵引，常如腰要折断之状，易于惊恐，刺解脉，在郄中有结络如黍米者，刺之则黑血射出，待见赤血便止。
The jie vessel also gives pain in the lower back as though one were pulled by a belt, with the constant feeling that the back is breaking in two, and the person frightens easily. Needle the jie vessel where a knotted network vessel the size of a grain of millet sits in the cleft centre: the blood spurts out black, and one stops as soon as red blood is seen.

The tongyin vessel gives pain in the lower back, as though a small mallet sat inside it, with an angry swelling. Needle the tongyin vessel at the end of the ending bone above the outer ankle: three insertions.
Yáng wéi zhī mài, lìng rén yāo tòng, tòng shàng fú rán zhǒng, cì yáng wéi zhī mài, mài yǔ tài yáng hé shuàn xià jiān, qù dì yī chǐ suǒ.
阳维之脉，使人腰痛，痛处怫然肿起，刺阳维之脉，其脉与太阳会合于小腿肚之下间，离地约一尺之处。
The yang link vessel gives pain in the lower back, and the painful spot swells up angry. Needle the yang link vessel where it joins greater yang in the space below the calf, about one foot above the ground.

衡络之脉使人腰痛，不可以俯仰，仰则恐将跌倒，得之于举重伤腰，衡络断绝，恶血归聚其间，刺之在郄阳两筋之间、上郄数寸横居之处，刺二次，出血。
The hengluo vessel gives pain in the lower back; one can neither bend forward nor lean back, and leaning back one is afraid of falling. It comes of lifting a weight and injuring the back: the hengluo network is severed and bad blood collects there. Needle it between the sinews on the yang side of the cleft, at the place that lies crosswise some inches above the cleft: two insertions, and let blood.

The huiyin vessel gives pain in the lower back; sweat pours from the painful spot, and when the sweat dries the patient wants to drink, and having drunk wants to walk about. Needle the zhiyang vessel three times, at the place that lies crosswise five inches above the qiao vessel and below the cleft, and let blood from whichever is full.

The feiyang vessel gives pain in the lower back, and the painful spot feels as though something brushed across it; at its worst the patient grieves and is afraid. Needle the feiyang vessel five inches above the inner ankle, in front of lesser yin, where it meets the yin link vessel.

The changyang vessel gives pain in the lower back that draws into the breast; the eyes go dim and blank, and at its worst the body arches backwards and the tongue curls so that the patient cannot speak. Needle the inner sinew twice, in front of the great sinew above the inner ankle and behind greater yin, two inches above the ankle.

The san vessel gives pain in the lower back with heat; when the heat is great it breeds vexation, and below the back it feels as though a beam of wood lay across it, while at its worst urine is passed unawares. Needle the san vessel at the division of bone and flesh in front of the knee, on the outer edge of the network vessel that binds the vessel: three insertions.
Ròu lǐ zhī mài, lìng rén yāo tòng, bù kě yǐ kài, kài zé jīn suō jí. Cì ròu lǐ zhī mài wéi èr wěi, zài tài yáng zhī wài, shào yáng jué gǔ zhī hòu.
肉里之脉，使人腰痛，不可以咳嗽，咳则筋脉缩急。刺肉里之脉二次，在太阳之外、少阳绝骨之后。
The rouli vessel gives pain in the lower back, and the patient cannot cough, for coughing draws the sinews tight. Needle the rouli vessel twice, outside greater yang and behind the ending bone of lesser yang.
Yāo tòng xié jǐ ér tòng zhì tóu, shū shū rán, mù huāng huāng yù jiāng pū, cì zú tài yáng, xì zhōng chū xuè.
腰痛夹脊而上痛至头，几几然强直，目视䀮䀮然将要僵仆，刺足太阳，郄中出血。
When the pain runs alongside the spine and up to the head, with the stiffness of 几几然, and the eyes go blank as though the patient would stiffen and fall, needle the foot greater yang and let blood from the cleft centre.

For fullness in the lower abdomen, needle the foot ceasing yin.

痛如折断，不可以俯仰，不可以抬举，刺足太阳；痛引脊内廉，刺足少阴。
If it feels as though the back were broken, so that one can neither bend nor lean back nor lift, needle the foot greater yang; if the pain draws along the inner edge of the spine, needle the foot lesser yin.

腰痛引少腹控䏚，不可以仰。刺腰凥交者，兩髁胂上，以月生死爲痏數，發鍼立已。

腰痛牵引少腹、控引䏚部，不可以后仰。刺腰凥相交之处，在两髁胂之上，以月的生死盈亏定刺数，出针即愈。
When the pain draws into the lower abdomen and grips the hollow of the flank, so that the patient cannot lean back, needle where the lower back and the seat meet, above the two hip bones, taking the waxing and waning of the moon for the number of insertions; withdraw the needle and the patient is well at once.
