骨 is bone — 說文 glosses it as the flesh's covering, 肉之覈, the hard part inside — and 髓 is marrow, the fat of the bone. Together they are the deepest place a disease can reach, and chapter 25 opens with them for exactly that reason: the sickness nobody can see has been lodging deeper day by day until it fixes itself in the bone and marrow. The whole chapter is an answer to that sentence. By the end, the chapter's remedy for depth is not a deeper needle but an earlier and more attentive eye.

《說文解字》:骨,肉之覈也。从冎有肉;髓,骨中脂也。从骨隓聲。本篇之目:留淫日深,著於骨髓。

In brief

The deepest lodging of disease, and the phrase chapter 25 opens with. The complaint is that the sickness is invisible while it travels and obvious only when it has arrived somewhere nothing can reach; 留淫日深 describes the travelling and 著於骨髓 the arrival. Everything in the chapter — the three images of a vessel failing, the ruined depot that drugs and needles cannot touch, the insistence on seeing the autumn down — follows from the wish to catch a disease before it gets this far.

The human being is born of the qi of heaven and earth and is completed by the order of the four seasons. Ruler and commoner alike all want to keep the form whole, yet when the form falls sick no one knows what is happening in it: the lodging grows more licentious day by day and fixes itself in the bone and marrow. I have worried over this privately. I wish to remove their disease with the needle — how should I go about it?

Qi Bo says: warm malaria is contracted by being struck by wind in winter, the cold qi lodging within the bone and marrow. When spring comes the yang qi breaks out greatly and the evil qi cannot get out by itself; then great summerheat is met, the brain and marrow are scorched, the flesh wastes, the interstices discharge, or a strain is taken — and the evil qi comes out together with the sweat. This disease lodges in the kidney, and its qi goes from within to without first.

The north generates cold, cold generates water, water generates saltiness, saltiness generates the kidney, the kidney generates bone and marrow, and marrow generates the liver. In heaven it is cold, in earth water, in the body bone, in qi hardness, and among the viscera the kidney. Its nature is severe cold, its virtue cold, its action (the text is wanting here), its colour black, its transformation austerity, its creature the scaled, its governance stillness, its command (the text is wanting here), its change freezing and biting, its calamity hail, its flavour saltiness, and its emotion fear. How it has been translated

Every rendering below is a decision about which reader is being addressed. There is no neutral option.

Wiseman & Fengbone and marrowThey keep the pair as a single depth, which is how the text uses it.
Unschuldbones and marrowHe pluralises, which suits an anatomical reading but loosens the sense of a single deepest place.
This sitebone and marrowThe chapter treats them as one destination — where the disease 著, fixes itself — and we keep them undivided for that reason. 'Marrow' alone would lose the hardness that makes the image work.
