The Emperor asks: I have heard that the qi points are three hundred and sixty-five, answering to one year. I do not yet know where they lie. I wish to hear the whole of it.

Qi Bo bows his head to the ground, prostrates himself twice, and answers: how searching this question is.

Qí fēi shèng dì, shú néng qióng qí dào yān?
Were he not a sage among sovereigns, who could exhaust the way of it?

Yīn qǐng yì yì, jìn yán qí chù.

The Emperor cups his hands, steps back hesitating, and says: in opening this way for me, you have made my eyes clear although they have not yet seen the places, and my ears keen although they have not heard the numbers.

Qí bó yuē: cǐ suǒ wèi shèng rén yì yǔ, liáng mǎ yì yù yě.
Qi Bo says: this is what is meant by the sage being easy to speak with, and the good horse easy to drive.

The Emperor says: I am not a sage who is easy to speak with. The world says that true numbers open a man’s mind. What I enquire into now is the true numbers; it dispels my darkness and unravels my doubts, but it is not yet enough to be called discourse.

Yet I wish to hear you pour out your purpose and say all their places, so that the meaning of them is made plain to me; I would then store it in the golden casket and not presume to bring it out again.
