Written in the aftermath of an epidemic, the Shanghan Lun organises illness into six conformations and matches each to a formula. It is the earliest Chinese medical text that reads like a clinical manual.
Its language is also harder than the Suwen‘s: terse, elliptical, and full of shorthand for quantities. Nothing is transcribed yet.
