The disorders proper to the five qi: in the heart, belching; in the lung, coughing; in the liver, talking; in the spleen, swallowing; in the kidney, yawning and sneezing; in the stomach, counterflow qi, retching and fear; in the large and small intestine, diarrhoea; when the lower burner overflows, water; when the bladder is impeded, dribbling obstruction; when it is no longer held, urine passed unawares; in the gallbladder, anger. This is called the five disorders.

Malaria of the foot ceasing yin makes the lower back ache and the lower abdomen feel full; the urine does not flow freely, so that it looks like blockage — yet it is not blockage, for the person passes urine often. He is fearful, short of qi, and oppressed within the belly. Needle the foot ceasing yin.

In the dried-stream year the lesser yu is one with the lesser gong; where the upper is gong it is one with the upright gong. Its illness is retention and blockage of urine; it is evil that injures the kidney. Then dust and darkness and driving rain come, with shaking, tearing, breaking and uprooting. The calamity falls in the first palace; its charge is the hairy creatures showing themselves, foxes and badgers, changing and never storing.

All these, the governance of yang brightness governing the heaven: the qi transformation runs behind heaven. The qi of heaven is urgent, the qi of earth bright; yang has its command alone and scorching heat moves greatly; things are dry and so hard; simple wind governs; wind and dryness move crosswise and flow to the junction of qi; yang is much and yin little; clouds hasten to the rain storehouse; the damp transformation spreads; dryness at its extreme becomes moisture; its grain is the white and the cinnabar, and the intercalary grain is the one that is over; what it consumes is the white-shelled and the feathered; metal and fire join in virtue; above it answers to Venus and Mars. Its governance is pressing, its command violent; the hibernating creatures then appear and running water does not freeze. The people are ill with cough and blocked throat; cold and heat break out; there is sudden shivering, retention and stoppage. When the cool comes first and is hard, the hairy creatures die; when heat comes after and is violent, the shelled creatures are harmed.
