Huáng Dì yuē: jīng mài shí èr, ér shǒu tài yīn, zú shào yīn yáng míng, dú dòng bù xiū, hé yě?
The Yellow Emperor said: Of the twelve channels, only the hand taiyin, the foot shaoyin, and the foot yangming move without rest. Why is that?

Qí Bó yuē: shì míng, wèi mài yě. wèi wéi wǔ zàng liù fǔ zhī hǎi, qí qīng qì shàng zhù yú fèi, fèi qì cóng tài yīn ér xíng zhī, qí xíng yě, yǐ xī wǎng lái, gù rén yī hū mài zài dòng, yī xī mài yì zài dòng, hū xī bù yǐ, gù dòng ér bù zhǐ.
Qi Bo said: This is the clear evidence — it is the stomach channel. The stomach is the sea of the five viscera and six bowels; its clear qi flows upward to the lungs, and the lung qi moves along the taiyin. Its movement goes with the breath, so that with one exhalation the pulse beats twice, and with one inhalation it beats twice again. Breathing does not stop, and therefore the movement does not stop.

Huáng Dì yuē: qì zhī guò yú cùn kǒu yě, shàng shí yān xī? xià bā yān fú? hé dào cóng hái? bù zhī qí jí.
The Emperor said: When the qi passes the inch opening, how much of it rises and rests above, and how much sinks and hides below? By what road does it return? I do not know its limit.

Qí Bó yuē: qì zhī lí zàng yě, cù rán rú gōng nǔ zhī fā, rú shuǐ zhī xià àn, shàng yú yú yǐ fǎn shuāi, qí yú qì shuāi sàn yǐ nì shàng, gù qí xíng wēi.
Qi Bo said: When the qi leaves the viscera, it comes suddenly like an arrow from a crossbow, like water falling over a bank. It rises to the fish border and there declines, and the remaining qi scatters and flows backward upward; that is why its movement is faint.

Huáng Dì yuē: zú zhī yáng míng, hé yīn ér dòng?
The Emperor said: Why does the foot yangming move?

Qí Bó yuē: wèi qì shàng zhù yú fèi, qí hàn qì shàng chōng tóu zhě, xún yān shàng zǒu kōng qiào, xún yǎn xì, rù luò nǎo, chū kǎn, xià kè zhǔ rén, xún yá chē, hé yáng míng, bìng xià rén yíng, cǐ wèi qì bié zǒu yú yáng míng zhě yě.
Qi Bo said: The stomach qi flows upward to the lungs. Its fierce qi, which rushes up to the head, follows the throat up into the empty orifices, follows the eye system into the brain, emerges at the cheek, descends to Kezhuren, follows the jaw cart, joins the yangming, and goes down together to Renying. This is the stomach qi that branches away into the yangming.

gù yīn yáng shàng xià, qí dòng yě ruò yī. gù yáng bìng ér yáng mài xiǎo zhě wéi nì, yīn bìng ér yīn mài dà zhě wéi nì, gù yīn yáng jù jìng jù dòng, ruò yǐn shéng xiāng qīng zhě bìng.
Thus above and below, yin and yang, their movement is as one. When the disease is yang and the yang pulse is small, that is a counterflow; when the disease is yin and the yin pulse is large, that is also a counterflow. When yin and yang are both still or both moving, like a rope drawn tight and leaning to one side, there is disease.

Huáng Dì yuē: zú shào yīn hé yīn ér dòng?
The Emperor said: Why does the foot shaoyin move?

Qí Bó yuē: chōng mài zhě, shí èr jīng zhī hǎi yě, yǔ shào yīn zhī dà luò, qǐ yú shèn xià, chū yú qì jiē, xún yīn gǔ nèi lián, xié rù guó zhōng, xún jìng gǔ nèi lián, bìng shào yīn zhī jīng, xià rù nèi huái zhī hòu, rù zú xià.
Qi Bo said: The penetrating vessel is the sea of the twelve channels. With the great network of the shaoyin it rises below the kidney, emerges at the qi street, follows the inner side of the yin thigh, enters obliquely into the hollow of the knee, follows the inner side of the shin bone, runs alongside the shaoyin channel, descends behind the inner ankle, and enters the sole of the foot.

qí bié zhě, xié rù huái, chū shǔ fū shàng, rù dà zhǐ zhī jiān, zhù zhū luò yǐ wēn zú jìng, cǐ mài zhī cháng dòng zhě yě.
Its branch enters obliquely at the ankle, emerges and attaches above the instep, enters between the big toes, and pours into the networks to warm the leg and shin. This is the vessel that constantly moves.

Huáng Dì yuē: yíng wèi zhī xíng yě, shàng xià xiāng guàn, rú huán zhī wú duān, jīn yǒu qí cù rán yù xié qì, jí féng dà hán, shǒu zú xiè duò, qí mài yīn yáng zhī dào, xiāng shū zhī huì, xíng xiāng shī yě, qì hé yóu hái?
The Emperor said: The course of nutritive and guarding qi runs above and below in a single thread, like a ring without end. Now when someone suddenly meets evil qi, or encounters great cold, his hands and feet grow slack, and the yin-yang roads of the vessels, the meeting places where they transport into one another, lose their order. By what route does the qi return?
Qí Bó yuē: fū sì mò yīn yáng zhī huì zhě, cǐ qì zhī dà luò yě. sì jiē zhě, qì zhī jìng lù yě. gù luò jué zé jìng tōng, sì mò jiě zé qì cóng hé, xiāng shū rú huán.
Qi Bo said: The meeting of yin and yang at the four extremities — these are the great networks of qi. The four streets are the direct roads of qi. Hence when the networks are cut, the direct roads run; when the four extremities are released, the qi joins again from its meeting places, and transport goes on like a ring.

Huáng Dì yuē: shàn. cǐ suǒ wèi rú huán wú duān, mò zhī qí jì, zhōng ér fù shǐ, cǐ zhī wèi yě.
The Emperor said: Good. This is what is meant by the saying that it is like a ring without end, that no one knows its order, and that it ends only to begin again.
