bāo mài
Also rendered: uterine vessel (Anatomically modern and loses 胞 as an enclosing organ) · womb channel (Reads as one of the regular channels, which it is not)

At a glance
The vessel that belongs to the heart and nets into the womb. Its closing is the chapter’s explanation for absent menses in wind water: the qi presses upward on the lung, the heart qi cannot pass down, and so the menses do not come. The chapter’s point is that the womb is not itself diseased — the passage of qi to it has been cut off from above.

Every rendering below is a decision about which reader is being addressed. There is no neutral option.
| Wiseman & Feng | womb vessel | They render 胞 as womb, which is what the chapter means by it in this context. |
| Unschuld | vessel of the womb | Unschuld spells out the relationship, which suits a passage that is defining the vessel's course. |
| This site | vessel of the womb | We keep 胞 as womb and 脉 as vessel. This is the one place in the chapter where an anatomical claim is made outright, and it should be translated as a claim rather than softened. |
