邪气化日
Literal
邪 xié — what is not upright, off its proper line (《說文》作衺: 衺,𩆍也), hence in medicine the qi that does harm; 氣 qì — qi; 化 huà — transformation; 日 — the reckoning. A day of evil-qi transformation: the year's transformation was done by a qi that should not have been doing it, because one side prevailed and the other took revenge.

In brief

The verdict for a year in which one qi got the better of another and the other answered: 乙丑、乙未歲。上太陰土,中少商金運,下太陽水。熱化寒化,勝復同,所謂邪氣化日也. Six of the sixty years are so marked, and each is marked for the same reason — 勝復同, prevalence and revenge the same. The word is the chapter’s harshest: 邪 is the graph for qi that is off its line, and a year so judged is one in which the calendar’s own arithmetic shows the year doing something other than what its qi was charged to do. It is the 變 of 六化六變 written into a single year.

In a yi chou or yi wei year: greater yin earth above, lesser shang metal circuit in the middle, greater yang water below. Heat transforms and cold transforms, and the prevalence and revenge are alike — this is what is called a day of evil-qi transformation. The disaster falls in the seventh palace; dampness transforms five, coolness transforms four, cold transforms six — this is what is called an upright transformation day. As to what transforms it: bitter and hot above, sour and harmonious in the middle, sweet and hot below — this is what is fitting in drugs and food.
