cháng bì
Also rendered: Intestine obstruction (this site; intestine for 腸, singular as in the five stores and six palaces) · Bowel obstruction (avoided on this site, since it now means something else in ordinary English)

At a glance
Obstruction lodged in the intestines. Its signs pair a thirst that does not come out the other way with a strife of the central qi, and the chapter adds the diarrhoea that now and then breaks out: the food comes out as it went in. It belongs to the two palace obstructions the chapter names, reached through eating and drinking rather than through a season.
Passages where the term does real work, with the original, pinyin and English on the same line.
Every rendering below is a decision about which reader is being addressed. There is no neutral option.
| This site | intestine obstruction | the palaces are named as they are elsewhere on the site |
| Unschuld | intestine blockage | the same construction |
